We can answer all your questions about GREEN FLOORING!

The environment is important to us at Geneva Flooring and we want to:

1) Help YOU understand what "green" means in the flooring industry

2) Show you what companies are going green and how they are implementing it.

Remember: going GREEN in the hardwood industry includes reforestation, legal imports, manufacturing, certifications, adhesives, and company practices.  And we are here to help YOU help the planet.

Many hardwood companies are getting us information on how they are cleaning up their acts.  They are providing zero emissions adhesives, lower formaldehydes in their core products, lowering VOCs in production, burning or using by-products of manufacturing, using managed forests for some or all of their products, and some are improving working conditions in the factories.

Part of the Green revolution is recognizing that not all species of wood are available in managed forests.  Sometimes we have to sacrifice new exotic woods for those that are available in the United States where we have been gearing up managed forests for years.  We are finding the beauty in domestic hickories, birches, maples, oaks, and walnuts.

The Forest Stewardship Council

The FSC sets principals, criteria and standards that span economic, social and environmental concerns.  The FSC standards represent the world's strongest system for guiding forest management toward sustainable outcomes.  These standards have now been applied in over 57 countries around the world.

The FSC purpose is to provide public information about certification and to work with other certification organizations to promote FSC certification in the United States.  Products that bear the FSC logo guarantee that the wood is from a certified well-managed forest.  We are in the process of marking all FSC certified products in our showroom with a clear "FSC approved" lable.

There are 10 Principals and 57 Criteria that address legal issues, indigenous rights, labor rights, multiple benefits, and environmental impacts surrounding forest management.  Go to FSCUS.org for details.

The PEFC is the European Equivalent of America's FSC.  The PEFC Council (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes) is an independent, non-profit, non-governmental organisation, founded in 1999 which promotes sustainably managed forests through independent third party certification. The PEFC provides an assurance mechanism to purchasers of wood and paper products that they are promoting the sustainable management of forests.
